Yes, what you are thinking is precisely correct. The University of California Santa Cruz has an annual naked run around the school campus during the first rainfall of the year. The run starts from Porter College and makes its way around to each of the other colleges on the campus, gathering more people as they go. The tradition started in when an earthquake struck and the students of Santa Cruz, in the dead of the night, frightened, decided to walk out into the quad to support each other. And thus, the tradition began.
We value the challenges and experiences of our BIPOC students and intentionally work to continue to center the care and support that is needed. Historically, there have been very harmful occurrences by the health care system that have led to warranted distrust and skepticism for BIPOC communities. Attending a PWI is an experience that, among other things, can be stressful and invalidating. Oftentimes BIPOC students must navigate complex dynamics at school, within their families, in their personal lives and in the world; all while trying to excel academically. We here at Tufts CMHS hope to provide support, understanding, compassion and more to help BIPOC students navigate the ever increasing challenges of receiving an education during these times.
